September - October 2017

September is arguably the best weather month of the year in the Tofino. The summer fog and westerly winds dissipate while the North Pacific winter low pressure system has yet to grip the region. Coho Salmon and bottom fish highlight the fall sport fisheries in our area. It is a great time to get out and stock up on Lingcod, rockfish and halibut on a full day charter in the western offshore waters. The Coho salmon (Slivers) fishery provides great sport on the troll, bucktail fly as well as on the cast lure when conditions line up. It is hard to beat a fall morning working around the kelp beds with a bucktail fly in search of an aggressive school of Coho.

After the first fall rains the west coast rivers come to life with returning salmon and the trout that follow. September and October is the prime time to hop in the float plane or a helicopter and explore the wilderness waterways that flow from the mountains to the Sound. One of our favorites is our River drift, we fly from the Tofino harbour in a floatplane to a wilderness lake then drift the river in your choice of a raft or inflatable kayak while fishing our way to the inlet and our flight home. This is possibly the best day trip available in the Tofino area. Read more about Fly in freshwater fishing.
